Memorial Day, much like any family holiday, can be stressful for the entire family. So, here are some helpful tips for preparing for your family adventure:
- Pick your battles- Every family has the weird uncle or the grandma from National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation, so embrace the time that you have with them. Laugh at their jokes, volunteer to take the trash out, or run an “errand” to the grocery store to get some extra barbecue sauce… just on the chance you run out during the festivities.
- Travelling can be fun- Think back to the time when you were a child and remember how fun it was to look for out of state license plates, count cows every time you pass by a farm, or point out a funny billboard to your kids. Make sure you have coloring books, DVD’s, MP3’s, and snacks available for your children.
- Be sure to check the weather- The weather can play a vital part in your holiday plans, so be sure to prepare a back-up plan for a rainy holiday. What activities can the whole family participate in if you are stuck inside for a day… or an entire weekend? Here is a helpful link to some games, activities for groups of all sizes, ages, and skill levels. http://www.great-group-activities.com/
So, have a great holiday and remember to prepare for your trip so you and your friends and family can have a safe and fun Memorial Day
