Is Your Child Stressed? Part 4

Today we are continuing our Blog Series on Recognizing the Signs of Childhood Stress.  This is a non-comprehensive list of some stressors that your child might have in their lives.  Some of these stressors are unavoidable; however, how you and your child cope with these stressors can be helpful. Please refer back to Recognizing the Signs of Childhood Stress: Part 3 to learn how to help your child cope with their stress.

Sources of Stress:

  • Being away from home (ages 5-7)
  • Fear of wetting themselves (ages 5-7)
  • Fear of punishment from you or a teacher
  • Worry about getting along with peers
  • Worry about schoolwork
  • Fear of being chosen last by a team
  • Fear of being different from others
  • Worry about changing bodies (ages 9-12)

 

Other Sources of Stress:

  • Divorced Parents/Single Parents
  • Move to a new city
  • Being held back in school
  • Serious illness
  • Parent in the military/going overseas
