I heard this quote in a song by the great writer Andrew Peterson, in his song Many Roads. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=23OjHJCpPao When was the last time you stopped to evaluate your relationships with your friends, family and even co-workers? When you are sitting at your office or classroom, are you making the most of the time you have? When you are sitting around the dinner table, is the television on in the background or are you investing in your family by asking the questions, “how was your day?” and “tell me about ___________” ? If you have children, when you arrive home from work do you sit down on the couch and turn on the television, or do you eagerly go to your children and ask them about their day or teach them how to throw a baseball, teach them a new song on guitar/piano or read a book with them? Do you return home to your wife/husband with the same desire to pursue them like when you first started dating?
By taking to heart the words of Andrew Peterson, you can begin transforming your relationships with your children, spouse, friends, and even co-workers. By being intentional about how you invest your time, you will maximize your relationships and you will be a better friend. And while you are at it, invest in Andrew’s Wingfeather Saga books at his website. They can be a great first step at investing your time wisely with your children, and you might discover that you enjoy the books too.
