Many clients seem to struggle a bit when I ask them about what they do to take care of themselves. Often we put ourselves at the very bottom of the to do list and prioritize everyone else instead. There is so much we know we should be doing, but are not consistent at all. The holidays are a usually so packed with activities that we may have to think about moving ourselves to the top of the list. I would like offer a few suggestions for you to try during the holidays.
- Spend time alone and concentrate on your breathing for a few minutes and sit in silence. (Hint: previous blog – breathe, breathe, breathe can help you with this!)
- Listen to your favorite music.
- Go for a walk. (previous blog on this one too)
- Read a favorites story aloud to a child or a friend or yourself.
- Watch a funny movie.
- Sip a cup of tea, hot cocoa or coffee.
A small list, to be sure. Choose one and then actually set aside the time to do the activity for yourself. Sometimes finding time for yourself is the most difficult obstacle of all to overcome.
