Is it possible to learn to love your body? Did you know that 99% of women are dissatisfied with their body? Okay, I made that statistic up. I don’t think there has been an actual study on this yet. But, it is believable, isn’t it?! You’ve heard other women talk about their bodies – your girlfriends, mother, aunts, sisters, and, of course, you too.
It seems women in our culture love to hate their bodies.
We talk about all the things that are wrong with our bodies and how we want to lose weight or change certain areas. We compare ourselves to everybody else, including movie stars and models.
Recently, in the media, an Australian mom named Taryn Brumfitt has made a documentary video of interviews with 100 women and what they have to say about their body. Taryn is on a mission to change the way women see their bodies. In May, 2013, she posted before and after-baby pictures of herself. You can see that video and the picture she posted on Facebook here.
Taryn decided to learn to love her body mainly because she wanted to be able to pass down a healthy body image to her daughters.
Studies have shown that if a mother has an unhealthy body image or disordered eating, this is very likely to affect her daughter. Taryn is founder of Body Image Movement.
